Teaching

Moving to Spain gave me the ability to live in a foreign country, travel, and experience countless different cultures. However the only way that I would be able to afford all of those wonderful things was to work and make some money. Naturally, I did what almost any English native speaker would do in this situation - I monetized my language. There are thousands of people across the world who are currently teaching English in foreign countries, but the biggest difference between Spain and the majority of other countries that want to hire native English speakers is that Spain does not require teachers to have TEFL certifications. The only requirements to work as an English "auxiliar" in Spain are that you have a four-year Bachelor's Degree, and that you are from an English speaking country. Essentially, any University graduate from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand can get an English teaching job in Spain. There are also a variety of progra...

Pandemic

Image
Let me paint you a picture. You're twenty-four years old. You've been living in a foreign country for six months, working and travelling around your new home continent. You've met countless amazing people, you're dating, and life is about as good as it can be. And then a global pandemic starts. What would you do? I figured I would have my experience of living abroad, travelling around Europe and then come back to Canada, ready to start the "working life" like so many of my friends and...

Why?

Why did I decide to move to Madrid in August 2019? Why did I leave all my family and friends behind in Canada, while embarking on this adventure? Why did I stay in Madrid despite a global pandemic? If I'm being honest, I wasn't overly enthusisatic about starting this blog, mostly because I have often felt that my "story" is extremely similar to many people who decide to live abroad. However, after speaking with some of my loved ones, I was reminded that just because my life feels normal now, it does not mean I have a normal story to tell. I think the first thing I should do is introduce myself properly, so that you can get a good sense of who I am. My name is Cameron, and I am a twenty-five year old Canadian, currently living and working in Madrid, Spain. I was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and I lived there my entire life until August of 2019, when I decided I needed to make a major life change. Well, I actually had decided that I needed to make a life change abou...
